Safe Mode
This is not a way to process the virus from out of system process. If a malware badly damaged your systems, then safe mode is not a correct way to remove it. If you boot your system in safe mode, then the third party programs will not run on start up. Therefore, virus cannot run in safe mode.
You can install a program anti virus in the safe environment which allows you to run limited programs. Then, scan the system and remove the malwares. When rebooting the computer, if a malware shows the head even after removing the malware by using anti virus program, then run the system in safe mode to remove the malware.
In windows 7 or to its earlier versions, when booting the computer if you press 'F8' repeatedly, computer will enter into safe mode selection black screen. Select 'Safe mode' or 'Safe mode with Networking' from the screen. The later one will allow you to download anti virus program from internet.
